More Interns
Its not even July yet and we've had 3 weeks plus days of 100+ weather. Not exactly what I was expecting for my first summer back in Texas. But hey, while I hide inside my air conditioned workplace during the day, I have the good fortune of monitoring the two summer interns, Adam and James. These little dudes are only 15, but they have mastered sarcasm, have great taste in music and have a genuine love of film. They are also very lucky to have found one another. A bromance if you will. A new dynamic duo in film. Well today, I assigned them the task of making a film for the blog. I got suckered into the production. Enjoy!

Sylvie Fleury
I first read about Sylvie Fleury in INDEX magazine (I loved that magazine.)
I felt like she would be an approachable woman and someone I'd like to know. Then oddly, I happened to meet her in the lobby of the Charteau Marmont cica 1999. Super lovely, very funny and extremely interesting.
But of course her work is super serious in its exploration of feminism. I've been reading a lot about her and researching her work.
Her piece 'Drastic Makeup' was produced in collaboration with SculptureCenter for 'The Happiness of Objects,' an exhibition curated by Sarina Basta (April 29-July 29, 2007).
And here is the link to the interview in INDEX< http://www.indexmagazine.com/interviews/sylvie_fleury.shtml
Maybe I'll run into her again one day...

Mateo Ybarra- Our Swiss Intern/Up and Coming Director
Anne Kelly, ASoF's co-director, introduced this cool kid Mateo as our new intern a few weeks ago. He'd just finished interning over at Troublemaker Studios, the film production company owned by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and producer Elizabeth Avellan. The first thing you notice about Mateo is his cool hair. He's got that Twilight thing going on. But the cool hair is nothing compared to the cool short films he makes. Check out this piece he made for David Hickey's Digital Filmmaking 2 class. Super cool.
Here is Mateo's website with all his projects. Keep an eye on this guy...something tells me we're going to see lots more of this talent.

Good luck on the way???
This grasshopper rode on my car for three days. I kept thinking he'd fly off or thought he did fly off. I'd come back to my car and there he would be. Surreal.

The Chinese symbol of good luck and abundance,
Grasshopper gives its totem people the ability to take chances.
To move on hunches and take the leap forward.
Things might not move for them as they do for other people;
progress is not step-by-step, but rather extremely fast.
Trust your own instincts on when to make the leaps.
Trust your inner voice.
It will lead you to great successes.
Don’t be afraid to leap –
and remember that Grasshopper only leaps forward – never backward.

My Morning Hike
I've been enjoying hiking the Greenbelt on weekday mornings and walk/jogging around Town Lake on the weekends. Good exercise, visually stimulating and energizing. Lots of lizards and bugs emerging though...Summer is gonna be interesting in the South; my first Summer spent in the South since 1995!!!
